Back by popular demand, Beeston Tales will be offering an Introduction to Storytelling day long course on Saturday 19th of October, now in the new location of Beeston Rylands Community Centre, Leyton Cres, NG9 1PR. Mike Payton and Tim Ralphs have been running Beeston Tales for nearly ten years. Between them they have several decades of experience as both performance storytellers and facilitators of workshops and courses for people of all ages and from diverse backgrounds. As part of their campaign to support and grow storytelling locally, they're keen to support people who want to dip their toe into this remarkable practice. Come on in, the water is lovely! https://www.tickettailor.com/events/beestontales/1391521? This workshop is for people who consider themselves either brand new to the idea of storytelling or those who want to boost their confidence by exploring the absolute foundations of voice, spontaniety and crafting a story. Perhaps you have visions of telling a tale at a local storytelling club. Maybe you want to improve your confidence at public speaking. You could just want to tell better stories to your children or grandchildren. The capacities of being present with your listeners, making your chosen images come to life in their imagination, all whilst feeling grounded and relaxed as you speak, are core skills of storytelling. Playful, engaging, with just a little bit of challenge. On this day long course, we’ll look at a variety of techniques to help get you started. The course will be fun, interactive, full of laughter, and will cover the evolving traditional of oral storytelling, how to find material that both inspires and excites you, and then how to start to shape it, bring it to life and remember it for performance to an audience. We will be putting on further training – ‘Stepping into Storytelling’ later in the year, and we very much hope that many participants will feel inspired to attend that course as well. The event will run from 10.30 am to around 4pm, with a break for lunch. We recommend bringing a lunch as the nearest cafes are a bit of a trek away! Drinks and snacks included in the price. https://www.tickettailor.com/events/beestontales/1391521? Beeston Tales is a not-for-profit community organisation, with all proceeds from events going to support traditional storytelling in Beeston and the surrounding area.
