Village Halls Week 2025: Network event will celebrate the volunteers who keep these important rural community buildings open
This special event will take place on Wednesday, March 19th, from 10am to 1.30pm at Trowell Parish Hall in Broxtowe.
The event is a fantastic opportunity to recognise the tireless work of volunteers who manage Nottinghamshire’s rural community buildings, whist also celebrating the voices and achievements of the Broxtowe SAY Now Project, an inspiring initiative that empowers and connects the local community.
Attendees can expect inspiring speakers who will provide valuable insights and practical advice for community hall committees, including:
- Jane Murden, Manager of Trowell Parish Hall, will share her experience in running a successful, thriving community hub.
- Gwynneth Owen, South Notts Dementia Link Worker, will offer tips on making facilities Dementia-Friendly.
- Severn Trent will showcase their Community Fund to help halls with sustainable improvements.
- Kaffy Rice-Oxley from Nottinghamshire Association of Local Councils will explain how Parish Councils can help support their local village halls.
RCAN’s Village Hall Advisor, Jodi Carter-Davies, said, “We look forward to Village Halls Week every year, and this time it’s extra special as we also celebrate the Broxtowe SAY Now Project. It’s a great opportunity for us to recognise volunteer hall committees and highlight how important these rural community facilities are.
This year we continue to encourage rural residents to get involved with and support their local village hall, through attending events, hiring a hall or pledging a couple of hours a month to help with the maintenance and running of the facility. In some cases, it really is a case of use it or lose it, if we want to keep these facilities open.”
As well as a jam packed agenda, attendees will also enjoy a free buffet lunch whilst mingling with fellow hall representatives. The event will offer an opportunity to share challenges and successes, and celebrate the wonderful work being done in rural Nottinghamshire. Feedback from previous events shows just how valuable this gathering is, with volunteers expressing, “It’s good to know we’re not alone.”
Leader of Broxtowe Borough Council and Portfolio Holder for Economic Development and Asset Management, Councillor Milan Radulovic MBE, said, ‘Village Halls are vital hubs for our rural communities in Broxtowe so to have an event where the amazing volunteers that give up their time to keep them going is great. The impact, the Broxtowe SAY Now has had across the Borough creating sustainable facilities for communities is also something we were proud to deliver.’
Spaces are filling up quickly, so don’t miss out! Interested hall representatives can register by emailing enquiries@rcan.org.uk
