Nottinghamshire Festival of Science and Curiosity returns to Broxtowe for February half term!

06/02/2025 - The annual Nottinghamshire Festival of Science and Curiosity (FOSAC) is returning to Broxtowe with six events across the Borough during February half-term as it celebrates ‘10 years of FOSAC’. These events were made possible through a £5,000 contribution by Broxtowe Borough Council of UK Shared Prosperity Funding (UKSPF) from the UK Government.

Following a successful expansion of FOSAC into Broxtowe in 2024, Broxtowe Borough Council is pleased to welcome back a programme of six free-of-charge events to the Borough, taking place during the half-term holiday between Saturday 15 February and Saturday 22 February. Events range from an Ozobots workshop at the D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum in Eastwood, to ‘Sensing the Brain’ drop-in sessions at Beeston Youth and Community Centre.

A full list of events taking place across the Borough can be found below. Please note that due to high demand, bookable sessions are now sold out, however, there are waiting lists available.

FREE family events. 10-21 February. Discover and learn. Hands-on science fun this half-term!

  • Saturday 15 February, 10am and 11am – Stop-Motion Animation Workshops (opens in a new window) at Stapleford Library.
  • Monday 17 February, 11am, 12:30pm and 2pm – Memory and How Our Brain Works (opens in a new window) at Beeston Library.
  • Wednesday 19 February, 10am,11am, 12pm, 2pm and 3pm – Ozobots Workshop (opens in a new window) at the D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum.
  • Wednesday 19 February, 10am – 2pm and Thursday 20 February, 10am – 5pm – Sensing the Brain at Beeston Youth and Community Centre, drop in sessions.
  • Friday 21 February, 10am, 11am and 1:15pm – Ecology Workshop (opens in a new window) at Kimberley Library.
  • Saturday 22 February, 11am – 2pm – Egg Drop Challenge (opens in a new window) at Bennerley Viaduct.

Encouraging curiosity through science inspires children to ask questions and helps to develop a lifelong passion for discovery and learning, which FOSAC do a fantastic job of.’

With 59 events across Nottinghamshire available to residents, FOSAC showcases the world of science and ignites curiosity in people across the County, encouraging them to ask questions and seek answers about the world around us. In their 9 previous years, FOSAC have put on 443 events, presenting a fun perspective on science to over 55,000 public attendees! The UK Shared Prosperity Fund is UK Government funded and Broxtowe Borough Council has been allocated a total of £2,584,477 over a three-year period 2022-25. Activity funded in 2024/5 includes local business, skills and community projects, including a set of community grant-funded projects.
