New portal to help jobseekers, businesses and charities in South Nottinghamshire

24/10/2024 - A new portal has been launched to help jobseekers, businesses and charities across Broxtowe.

The Start in South Nottinghamshire Portal streamlines how residents and businesses can access information about jobs, business support, training opportunities and much more.

The portal is a partnership between Broxtowe Borough Council, Rushcliffe Borough Council and Gedling Borough Council who make up the South Nottinghamshire area. The programme is funded through the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.Start in South Nottinghamshire Portal promotional graphic

For jobseekers the portal is more than just a vacancy list, it includes help with finding training and support such as a virtual CV builder. On the site, jobseekers are able to look for the latest vacancies via the job search tool, complete virtual work experience programmes from global and local businesses, gain CV and cover letter building advice and find the latest opportunities and initiatives to help them get back into the workplace. They are able to find local job opportunities more easily, avoiding the, often unstructured, multitude of vacancies advertised on the national websites.

Businesses can use the platform free of charge until 31 March 2025 and it will put their vacancies in front of local jobseekers. The local focus of the portal means that finding the right candidate for the job should be easier. Businesses can also find out about the business support services available to them.

Leader of Broxtowe Borough Council and Portfolio Holder for Economic Development and Asset Management, Councillor Milan Radulovic MBE said. ‘I am pleased that we can offer this service to our residents and businesses. Thriving local businesses filling positions with local people brings tremendous benefits for the Borough. It also means that local people can see what opportunities there are to get support and undertake training, to help them get on in the workplace.’

South Nottinghamshire encompasses the Boroughs of Broxtowe, Rushcliffe and Gedling. The three local authorities for this area hold responsibility for economic development, growth and regeneration in their areas and work collectively with Nottinghamshire County Council, central Government and a multitude of other organisations to achieve these goals. For example, all three local authorities are currently managing an allocation of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to support their areas in a variety of ways, such as the implementation of skills initiatives, business support and community grants.
