Eastwood gains £32,000 UK Shared Prosperity funding to expand young people’s football and adult wellbeing sessions.
The regular free sessions for young people offer them development opportunities. The adult sessions focus on wellbeing and resilience.
The grant was made possible through UK Shared Prosperity Funding (UKSPF) from the UK Government
The ‘Kicks’ programme is aimed at girls and boys from 8 to 18 of all abilities. The evening sessions have been well attended with 65 regular attenders and NFCT are keeping up the momentum into the new school year. NFCT facilitates young people to shape parts of the programme. Members of the group took part in running a family fun day in the summer, working with people from four other local groups.

The adult programme is part of NFCT’s Healthy Horizons. There are free activities that promote not only a healthy lifestyle but also a space where everyone can share, connect, and grow together. The sessions have been running since April 2024 and are tailored to cater to all aspects of health in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, led by an experienced facilitator. Whether it’s looking to engage in lively discussions over coffee, participate in wellness activities, or simply enjoy a quiet space to reflect and chat, there is something for everyone.

Council Leader and Portfolio Holder for Economic Development and Assets, Councillor Milan Radulovic MBE said, 'It’s great that we have been able to get more resources into Eastwood with this grant. Eastwood has some of the most deprived areas in the Borough and it’s important that we can improve inclusion and wellbeing. It’s encouraging that we are getting so many young people and adults engaged.'
Karen Swan, Head of Community Engagement at NFCT said, 'We are exceptionally grateful to be funded for another year of Kicks in Eastwood for young people aged 8-18. The funding has also allowed us to expand our offer to a health and wellbeing session for over 18s in Eastwood offering a whole family approach to support.'
The UK Shared Prosperity Fund is UK Government funded and Broxtowe Borough Council has been allocated a total of £2,584,477 over a three-year period 2022-25. Activity funded in 2024/5 includes local business, skills and community projects, including a set of community grant-funded projects.
