Construction is underway to create 12 new homes and 3 flats in Chilwell

24/05/24 - Construction has begun at the former pub and garage site in Inham Nook, Chilwell.

The development will see the creation of 12 houses and 3 flats, owned by Broxtowe Borough Council for general needs housing and made up of:

  • 5 x 3 bed 5 person houses.
  • 7 x 2 bed 4 person houses.
  • 3 x 1 bed 2 person flats.

The homes have been developed by Broxtowe Borough Council as part of its House Building Delivery Plan, which is designed to meet the housing needs of the local community and this scheme will deliver much needed family sized homes.

As part of Broxtowe’s environmental commitments a number of energy efficient measures have been incorporated into the design including:

  • Air source heat pumps (ASHPs) which are a renewable heating technology that moves existing heat energy from the outside air into the home, even in the winter months.
  • Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels on the rooftops generating electricity for use in the home and anticipated to generate enough electricity to run the ASHPs.
  • Being built to an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating B and will be built with higher insulation than current standard requirements.

Portfolio Holder for Housing, Councillor Vanessa Smith said, ‘It’s great to see some great progress on the development here in Chilwell. At Broxtowe we’re committed to creating more secure and affordable homes for the people that need them within our community, with the intention to cut down on our housing waiting list.

We’re also really excited about hosting an open weekend once the development is completed so that members of the public can come along and see the energy efficient technology installed, and speak to experts about how it works.’

Lucy Field, Associate Director at AtkinsRealis said, ‘We’ve got a great collaborative team working together via the Pagabo framework to deliver these affordable housing regeneration schemes for Broxtowe Borough Council’s communities. We’ve helped the Council explore best value energy efficiency solutions, and the new homes will be greener and cheaper to heat.’

Grant assistance from Homes England has also helped support the construction of the development, and a phased completion is expected before August 2025.
