Leisure provision for Broxtowe residents following the closure of Kimberley Gym and Swim
“Residents will be aware that despite significant efforts between the Council, Liberty Leisure Ltd and Kimberley School to reach an agreement, the Council is incredibly disappointed that it can no longer commit to the very significant financial contributions proposed by the school to maintain the Kimberley Gym and Swim arrangements.
As a result, the school has decided that the facility will no longer be available for public use after 31 March 2024 and all members and customers have been contacted with more details about their membership moving forward.
We recognise this has been a difficult time for employees and customers and we would like to thank them all for their continued support over the years. Employees have been fully supported through the process and arrangements have been made to enable residents to continue their health and fitness routines.
This includes:
- Existing memberships will continue and can be used at Bramcote Leisure Centre and Chilwell Olympia where residents can access the gyms, swimming pool and exercise classes as usual.
- Arrangements have been made for Exercise Referral Members to be allowed full access to the gym facility and group exercise class programme at Greasley Sports & Community Centre.
- Proposals are also being developed for a ‘bursary to fitness’ scheme to target specific groups of people whose health would benefit from exercise and provide them with bursaries which they can use for membership at other gyms and fitness sites.
In the longer term, the Council will be continuing to explore options for a new leisure centre in the north of the Borough.”
