Local parks standards fly high with Green Flag Awards
Managed by Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, the Green Flag Awards are the international mark of quality for parks and open spaces. A Green Flag is a sign to the public that the space boasts very high standards, is well maintained and has good facilities.
Sites across the Borough that received a Green Flag award include:
- Bramcote Hills Park
- Colliers Wood
- Alexandrina Plantation Nature Reserve
- Brinsley Headstocks
- Bramcote Old Church Tower
Bramcote Hills Park has been awarded a Green Flag every year for the last eight years and Colliers Wood has received one for the past six years in a row.
Bramcote Hills Park in particular received positive comments about how the park is clearly well loved by the local community with something for everyone to enjoy. The space was also described as a testament to what can be achieved by local authorities in current times.
Councillor Helen Skinner, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Climate Change said “We are incredibly pleased that five green spaces across the Borough received the Green Flag Award as we take pride in providing spaces for our residents to enjoy. The people that work so hard to maintain these spaces, from our teams to our community and the Friends Groups, deserve recognition for their efforts to achieve this. We are also glad that Bramcote Hills Park received such high praise.”
Sites and management plans are appraised by experienced judges in the management of green spaces. All sites are scored across various areas which reflect on how it is being managed, ensuring that it is a safe welcoming place for people to come and visit.
