Go on a seaside adventure in Stapleford this summer thanks to £5,000 Grant!
With jellyfish and seahorses to pirates and mermaids these sea themed creations will be installed across the town centre in windows, the library and post box toppers all in time for the summer school holidays.
Over 100 people have been involved in this project from 3 year olds to 86 year olds working on ten different installations, residents will have chance to spot them until the 24 August.
There will be something for all the family with after-school clubs, community installations, a library gallery and a summer event on Saturday 10 August. The event will be officially opened by the Mayor of Broxtowe and the Mayor of Stapleford will be judging the fancy dress costumes at 1pm. Taking place at the event is:
- Steel band
- Punch and Judy Show
- Sand Pits
- Treasure Hunts
- Street Food
- Crochet Displays
- Ice Creams
- Stapleford Fire Station
- And lots more!
The event hopes to raise awareness about the rising sea levels and the threats to our marine environment.
Heather Bessant, Co-Founder of Yarn Bomb Stapleford said, ‘We have enjoyed making the Stapleford on Sea installations and hope you do too! Please come and see on the 10 August for lots of fun!’
Leader of Broxtowe Borough Council, Councillor Milan Radulovic MBE said, ‘Community projects like this are so important in our Borough as they bring people together in to our town centres, but also pull together the many creatives we have in Broxtowe. It shows why this UKSPF Funding is so beneficial to ensure we support community led project like this one.
The theme behind this project is also closely aligned with our own environmental objectives as a Council to become carbon neutral by 2027, so it’s great to see that this project is engaging our residents both young and old in the effects of climate change.’
As part of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, Broxtowe will receive a total of £2,584,477 over a three-year period. Projects for the third year 2024/5, including local business and skills support, will total £1.6m.
