Salary: £24,775 - £26,152 (Grade 5) Full Time 37 hours per week

Broxtowe Borough Council is looking to recruit a Temporary Accommodation Officer to help deliver and improve its Housing Options service.  As part of the Temporary Accommodation Officer role, your role will include daily contact with customers that are homeless or threatened with homelessness.

The primary purpose of the role is to ensure that clients that are in temporary accommodation are supported and they are following the terms of their license agreements with us.  You will also be responsible for ensuring that the Council’s own temporary accommodation is a safe and secure place to live.  You will be responsible for the day to day management of the buildings and units themselves, coordinating repairs and other maintenance issues as part of this.

Part of the role will also be carrying out face to face meetings with clients who are new to the accommodation to ensure that they understand their responsibilities and are also enabled to receive benefit claims and other support related to accommodation and a tenancy.

It will also be necessary to build and maintain a network of partnerships and useful contacts.  These could be with suppliers, other departments within the Council, sub-contractors as well as proprietors of bed and breakfast accommodation.

You will work as part of the wider Housing Options Team, who provide housing advice and assistance and the homelessness service, and you will work with the wider team and officers to manage the caseload.

You will need to be able to communicate effectively with customers, both verbally and in writing, some of whom will be in distress because of the difficulties they are facing in their personal circumstances.

We’re looking for an individual who has experience in:

  • Experience in working with customers
  • Experience in working with vulnerable people
  • Experience or an awareness of tenancy management and the management of accommodation

 The ideal candidate would be:
