The Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support schemes are for people on low incomes who genuinely need help with the payment of their Rent and Council Tax bills.
The Council is committed to combating Benefit Fraud and works closely with the Department for Work and Pensions to assist with the investigation of any cases where a government benefit or an award of local council tax support has been falsely claimed.
You commit benefit fraud by either:

intentionally not reporting a change in your circumstances

being dishonest in order to get benefits
