Safer Cycling Scheme

We want a Stapleford where everything’s within easy reach. We want to build a joined-up transport network for all, which enables more people to travel safely and sustainably. We are helping do this through the following projects:

Cycle Hub

Through this project many have benefited from our hugely successful Cycle Hub on the Ilkeston Road Recreation Ground.

The Hub has been open since late 2022, helping thousands of families and cyclists get back on the road with free bicycle repairs, advice and support.

A huge thank you to RideWise which runs this vital service for us.

Cycle Training Track

The Town’s new Cycle Training Track has been a big hit with children, young people and families in the town since it opened in April 2023.

The track offers a safe space to learn and practice cycling on a real-life, car-free road network, with roundabouts, crossings and signs.

Wheels/Skate Park

We’re pleased to support the fantastic work of Skate Nottingham, which is helping develop plans for a new skate park on the Pastures Road Recreation Ground following the removal of the unsafe park on Hickings Lane in 2022.

We’ve listened to local people and young people and know how important it is for young people to have facilities like this, and we are hoping that once funding has been secured work will be able to get underway in 2025.

Cycle network

Plans are also being developed to build new cycle paths on both Hickings Lane and Pastures Road Recreation Grounds, with further plans for new cycle route to better connect Stapleford to the Erewash Valley Trail.
