The business specialises in bespoke jewellery, scented candles and fairly traded products to offer gifts and lifestyle products based on an ethos of sustainability.

Charlotte, a former teacher, was looking for a change of direction so they decided to combine Nancy’s design and jewellery making skills with her organisational skills to run the shop and opened Ziggy’s Emporium in October 2023. They stock unusual items that are predominantly ethically sourced. They chose to open a shop because they are passionate about delivering high quality customer service from a bricks and mortar location. The shop, in Kimberley’s James Street Conservation Area has been a butchers and a bakers and Charlotte jokes that they are the candlestick makers, as they sell, amongst a wide selection of items, a range of candles.

They received a grant of £5,000 from Kimberley Means Business to insulate the building, restore tiling on the shop front, replace windows and install more energy efficient lighting.

Charlotte said; ‘The grant has made a real difference to us as we have been able improve our presence on James Street. We really love the cobbled street and it matches the quirky vision we had for the shop. As a new business, the early years are always going to be a challenge and the grant has given us a very good start. The insulation, new windows and energy efficient lighting will not only help keep our costs down but it also links to our sustainable ethos.

Kimberley seems to have bucked the trend in having a very few empty units. We decided to come here because there are many independent businesses in the town and that choice, I believe, helps to increase footfall, town pride and a feeling of prosperity.’

Kimberley Means Business is UK Government funded and is administered by Broxtowe Borough Council in partnership with Kimberley Town Council.
