Lynn's Hair Designs & Beauty Bar

Lynn has had her salon on James Street Kimberley for 39 years, offering hair styling, beauty treatments and foot care.

The premises needed an upgrade because original period windows provided little in the way of insulation and had permanent condensation in winter. The condensation also led to other damp- related issues. As the salon is in the James Street Conservation Area, options for replacements of the windows were limited and Lynn wanted to keep the look as original as possible.

The Kimberley Means Business grant of £7,500 and Lynn’s match funding meant that the windows could be replaced with double glazed units that met the requirements of the conservation area and deliver better insulation. The bespoke double glazed units and custom wooden frames were produced and installed by local companies. The grant also meant that the exterior signage could be refreshed.

Lynn also received a subsequent grant to upgrade the lighting in the salon, replacing aging fluorescent lights with modern, energy efficient LED units.

Lynn said, ‘The windows and the lights have made such a difference and I am making savings on my energy costs. Keeping business costs down is so important to a small business like mine. The fresh new look is also attracting more customers.

The Kimberley Business Grants are having a real impact in Kimberley, the refreshed shop fronts are more attractive and are drawing more people into local businesses.’

Kimberley Means Business is UK Government funded and is administered by Broxtowe Borough Council in partnership with Kimberley Town Council.
