Kimberley Opticians
Having studied at Aston University, he and his wife set up their first practice in Derby in 1994. They expanded into Kimberley in 2011 and have been building a reputation as a caring practice ever since.
Kimberley was attractive because it offered the right demographic and the opportunity to build lasting relationships with patients. Running their own business is very important to the Jacksons as it meant that they can provide the products and services best suited for their patients. Kimberley has an older demographic and having the continuity of care and the time to build trusting relationships is key to the practice. The care even extends to negotiating with the landlord to extended parking times for patients. The Kimberley location also means that there is flexibility for staff to work between the Jacksons’ two other practices in Derby.
The Kimberley Means Business grant award of £2000 has been used to install a display screen in the front window. The screen acts as a public service with notices from the town council, health messages and promotions.
The practice has just received a further grant of £22,000 with nearly £15,000 from the practice, to refurbish the shop and part fund an ophthalmic coherence tomography (OCT) system. The non-invasive OCT imaging will allow the practice to offer an improved service by being able diagnose and monitor eye conditions, without the need for patients to travel outside the town.
Tom said, ‘The grant has really helped us build our presence in the community. Kimberley is a friendly place and we want to be a part of the community. Being awarded a grant has meant that we can add a service that benefits us and the wider community.
Kimberley Means Business is UK Government funded and is administered by Broxtowe Borough Council in partnership with Kimberley Town Council.
